This Reduced Vertical Separation Minima (RVSM) course is in conformity with:

ICAO DOC 9574 and AIR-OPS requirements
It describes the operation, limitations and requirements for flight in RVSM airspace. (FLT 2.2.18)

What is covered in the course?

  • Introduction
  • Pre-flight procedures at the aircraft for each flight
  • Procedures prior to RVSM airspace entry
  • In-flight procedures
  • Contingency procedures after entering RVSM airspace
  • Post-flight procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of standard ATC phraseology used in each area of operations
  • Importance of crew members cross checking to ensure that ATC clearances are promptly and correctly complied with
  • Use and limitations in terms of accuracy of standby altimeters in contingencies
  • Problems of visual perception of other aircraft at 300m (1,000 ft.) planned separation during darkness, when encountering local phenomena such as northern lights, for opposite and same direction traffic, and during turns
  • Characteristics of aircraft altitude capture systems which may lead to overshoots
  • Relationship between the aircraft’s altimetry, automatic altitude control and transponder systems in normal and abnormal conditions
  • Any airframe operating restrictions, if required for the specific aircraft group, related to RVSM airworthiness approval

After completing all the chapters, the user is presented with a test in order to test his knowledge.
